Major changes to CHAC Honors assembly leave many students questioning the future of the College
New Format for Honors Assembly Leaves Students Scratching Their Heads.
Major changes to Chac’s Honours Assembly have left many students questioning the future of the college. In a significant departure from tradition, this year’s assembly featured a pre-recorded video compilation of students answering questions, with only the Dux delivering a live speech. While the intent may have been to modernise and shorten the presentation, the result has sparked confusion among students who fondly remember a more interactive and personal experience.
In the past, students would gather for an event where each individual took to the stage to share their thoughts and insights reflecting on their final year at CHAC. However, this year’s format required students to be present solely to sign their names in a book, which many found ironic given the recorded nature of the ceremony.
Beyond the honours assembly, the college has made sweeping changes to its awards nights and even revamped one of Chac’s major music performances into a disastrous music festival. While these changes aim to create a more casual and festive atmosphere, they have left many long-time students wondering if the school is straying too far from the traditions that made these events special.
“This new approach just feels wrong,” said one student who wished to remain anonymous. “We look forward to these moments of recognition and celebration, and it seems like that connection is missing now.”
As the college navigates these transitions, it remains to be seen how the students will respond and adapt.
More to come.
