Teachers “furious” at the removal of J block “Break out rooms”
In a development that has left teachers fuming, the College executive team has decided to remove the sliding doors from the wildly popular “breakout rooms”, sparking intense controversy within the school community.
The drastic change was implemented to crack down on students’ growing misuse of the spaces. Always eager to find a way to push the boundaries, Year 7s have been found on multiple occasions to have been using the breakout rooms as their own personal “Phone Booths”.
And perhaps more importantly, let’s not forget the students who have found themselves trapped inside the rooms behind a jammed door, with many teachers having to get help from the College Grounds and Maintenance team to get them out.
Not all are pleased with the change, however.
With the doors removed, the breakout rooms are less “rooms” and now just wide corridors connecting classrooms.
Teachers and students who were once able to enjoy the tranquillity of their own private space are now forced to endure the insufferable noise from neighbouring colleagues’ lessons.
One anonymous educator was overheard complaining in the staffroom, “I’ve had to go into the opposite class five times in one lesson just to get their students to be quiet.”
As the situation continues to escalate, teachers are demanding answers from school executives. Will they reverse this decision? Or will they continue to ignore the growing discontent? Only time will tell.
The Year 7s caught using their phones declined our request for comment.
